Abstract: The scenario of using art and design as parameters for carrying out social and technological modernization makes it possible to look at the need for sustainability in social and environmental aspects, which should be the object of study when evaluating the impacts of innovation and technological development. The guiding questions of the study are: What in societies in force after the industrial and bourgeois revolutions is understood as a process of modernization and what would be the principles played by art and design to achieve it? As a secondary question, considering the object of study related to electronic games, what are the paths to sustainable development considering management models in an electronic games company? The objective of the article is to understand the specificity of the electronic games area focused on the Sonic franchise and its art and design aspects, made from the perspective of environmental sustainability, under the management of its parent company, Sega. The present study is based on qualitative bibliographical research using the historical method to elaborate the discussion on social and technological modernization. To understand the trajectory of the franchise and the electronic game to which the study is dedicated, documentary research was developed. Sega is a company participating in the current capitalist market, and it is then based on its trajectory that we seek to draw conclusions regarding art and design as precursors to social and technological modernization, in which one of the biggest challenges is socio-environmental and business sustainability. The study demonstrated how social and technological modernization has been developed unilaterally with disregard for nature, social exclusion and creative processes, which contributed to a simulacrum of modernization. This process is accompanied by the industry form and more recently the company form as a fundamental presupposition of technological development and social relations
