APROPRIAÇÕES E COMUNICAÇÃO NA INTERNET DAS COISAS: “ANÁLISE DE MEDIAÇÕES E AGÊNCIAS A PARTIR DA PROGRAMAÇÃO DE CONEXÕES POR USUÁRIOS FINAIS EM SERVIÇOS E DISPOSITIVOS ALEXA E NO APLICATIVO IFTTT”
A pesquisa tem como objeto de estudo os usos e apropriações de soluções de Internet das Coisas (Internet of Things, IoT) e a maneira como as últimas alteram a distribuição de mediações e agências nesses sistemas. Verificamos de que forma essas apropriações se processam, como criam e/ou reconfiguram as redes de associação e comunicação na IoT e qual indicação oferecem sobre o lugar do humano nesses sistemas. Para reunir dados concretos, tomamos como objetos empíricos o aplicativo IFTTT e o serviço Amazon Alexa, executado nos dispositivos EchoDot e AlexaPi. Examinamos também algumas funções das plataformas de desenvolvimento dessas aplicações, com atenção às opções de (program)ação, conexão e compartilhamento disponíveis. Concluímos que as apropriações reconfiguram os fluxos de agência e mediação da IoT mobilizando novos atores e redes; provendo agência aos realizadores da apropriação e, eventualmente, a parte dos outros atores mobilizados; permitindo usos inéditos; e sedimentando hábitos a partir de sua realização. Diante de nossas análises e evidências, parece sem sentido perguntar por um lugar específico do humano na IoT como um dado a priori. Uma resposta a essa questão só pode ser dada analisando as associações em causa, de maneira a determinar o seu papel na composição das redes de que participa e em que termos constrói suas relações com os outros atores (humanos e não humanos) dessa rede.

Abstract:
The research has as object of study the uses and appropriations of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and the way in which the latter alter the distribution of mediations and agencies in these systems. We verify how these appropriations are processed, how they create and / or reconfigure the networks of association and communication in the IoT and the indication they offer about the place of the human in these systems. To gather concrete data, we take the IFTTT application and the Amazon Alexa service, running on EchoDot and AlexaPi devices, as empirical objects. We also examined some functions of the development platforms for these applications, paying attention to the options for (program) action, connection and sharing available. We conclude that appropriations reconfigure IoT agency and mediation flows by mobilizing new actors and networks; providing agency to the makers of the appropriation and, eventually, to the other mobilized actors; allowing unprecedent uses; and consolidating habits from its realization. In the face of our analysis and evidence, it seems pointless to ask for a specific place of the human in the IoT as a priori data. An answer to this question can only be given by analyzing the associations concerned, in order to determine their role in the composition of the networks in which they participate and in which terms they build their relationships with the other actors (human and non-human) of that network.
