Abstract: This is a historiographical research in the field of History of Education, focusing on the state of Pará and Childhood Education, based on existing historiography. The text analyzes the historical trajectory of child education, especially in educational institutions as spaces of protection, both in a national context and in the specificities of the Amazon region, with a focus on the state of Pará. The school is recognized as a historical concept in constant transformation, from the colonial period to the present day, reflecting changes in the social and cultural conception of childhood. It is pointed out that there has been an educational evolution marked by welfare policies aimed at needy children, for a long time under a medical-hygienist perspective, and that advanced through social transformations and struggles for rights, culminating in the contemporary understanding of the school as an essential space for the integral protection of children, associated not only with welfare, but also with children's human rights. The history of child education shows not only the challenges overcome, but also the continuous need for adaptation and improvement, with educational institutions, especially schools, playing a crucial role in the formation and protection of future generations.
