Abstract: This article examines the role of ontologies and artificial intelligence (AI) in Biomedical Engineering, highlighting their importance in organizing and integrating knowledge across interdisciplinary areas. An ontology is a formal structure that represents concepts, their properties, and the relationships between them in a specific domain, while AI provides computational methods for analyzing complex data and making automated decisions. In Biomedical Engineering, ontologies and AI play complementary roles, facilitating data modeling, system interoperability, clinical decision-making, and the development of innovative technologies. This article reviews various applications of these technologies in Biomedical Engineering, emphasizing their benefits, challenges, and future trends.
