Abstract: The ethical review of research protocols involving human beings is an essential requirement for conducting and financing research and publishing its results around the world. In Brazil, this review is under the responsibility of the National Research Ethics System, comprised of the network of Research Ethics Committees and the National Research Ethics Commission. One of the main criticisms of the Brazilian system is the slowness in the processing of protocols until their approval, which can negatively impact the approval, the release of resources, the recruitment of participants, the obtaining resources, among others. The National Health Council has been committed to ensuring agility in processing and complying with regulatory deadlines. In this context, the application of management measures that enable greater control over these deadlines is of great importance. Methodology: experience report of cross-sectional research, with a quantitative approach, carried out with the aim of reducing the time for ethical analysis of protocols and amendments to projects submitted to the Research Ethics Committee of the Gonçalo Moniz Research Center, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation. Lean Six Sigma and its tools were applied to map processes, identify problems and implement solutions for critical areas. Results and Conclusion: The reception, document validation and reporting of protocols were identified as critical stages of the process. There was a need to plan educational measures to train users of the online system in handling the guidelines provided, as well as the importance of greater interface between the Committee and Quality Management.
