Abstract: The advancement of anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere has caused an imbalance in the concentration of gases such as CO2. Therefore, technologies are needed to reduce these emissions. To this end, Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects in geological environments are fundamental solutions, providing a sustainable energy matrix. Brazil is a potential contributor to this type of project due to its vast sedimentary basins, one of which is the Parnaíba Basin, located in the Brazilian Northeast, and which contains gas fields such as Parque dos Gaviões. Therefore, the present study aims to evaluate the potential applicability of implementing CCS technologies in the Poti Formation through the comparison of petrographic parameters such as porosity, permeability, and reservoir depth. Additionally, safety conditions must also be analyzed, such as the effect of rock sealants. The results obtained define the Poti Formation as a potential CO2 storage reservoir with the compared parameters being overwhelmingly satisfactory. Concerning the capping rock, the reservoirs of the studied formation are capped by igneous intrusions that structurally prevent the leakage of CO2 and have the potential for trapping by mineralization, due to reactivity with CO2.
