Abstract: Inflation is a very important macroeconomic variable in terms of poverty levels and social welfare. The objective of the study was to analyze the effect that monetary policy has on inflation control, on the incidence rates, severity and poverty gap. Regarding the methodology, a quantitative analysis of the data was used through the regression model. Based on the results, it was found that there is a positive and significant relationship (99% confidence) between the inflation variable and the rates of incidence, severity, and monetary and extreme poverty gap. Likewise, it was concluded that the inflation variable is directly and significantly related (99% confidence) with the number of people who are in a situation of monetary poverty and extreme poverty. On the other hand, through the regression analysis with lagged variables, it was possible to determine that the inflation variable has long-term effects on the incidence, severity and gap of monetary and extreme poverty in the period 2012-2021. Based on these findings, the importance of achieving a context of low inflation levels and price stability is highlighted, in terms of reducing the main poverty indicators. In this sense, a monetary policy aimed at reducing inflation will have a direct effect on reducing poverty levels and increasing levels of social welfare.
