Abstract: This article presents interim results from a study that examines the geotechnical stability of natural slopes following intense rainfall in February 2024 in the Serra de Paracambi, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The analysis focuses on the landslide designated as event 3072, located between points B and C along the affected segment of highway RJ-127. Slope-stability modeling was performed using GEO5 (student version), based on input data from the Rio de Janeiro State Department of Highways (DER-RJ) and the National Water and Basic Sanitation Agency (ANA). The landslide was classified as a earth flow, characterized by high velocity and near-total loss of soil shear strength. The analysis indicates a high susceptibility of the region to additional instability events. These preliminary findings point to the need for immediate preventive actions and underscore the importance of continuous monitoring of the area.
