Abstract: The evolution of welding technologies and the careful selection of consumables play crucial roles in achieving quality and efficiency in industrial processes. This study presents a comparative analysis of the macro and microstructural aspects of "V" butt joints welded with three passes, using the shielded metal arc welding process. The electrodes E6013 and E7018, both with a 2.5 mm diameter, were used, and predefined electrical parameters were applied to A36 steel test specimens with a thickness of 6.35 mm.The analyses revealed differences in grain size and microstructure formation in the analyzed regions. Both specimens showed the presence of lack of penetration in the root pass, as well as misalignment in the welded pieces, especially in the joint welded with the E7018 electrode. Thermally affected zones were observed in both welded joints, with greater clarity in the joint welded with the E6013 electrode. The results highlight the importance of strict control of welding parameters and meticulous preparation of the workpieces, demonstrating that errors in the preparation of the pieces to be welded can compromise the safe application of the welded component. The study emphasizes the need for continuous improvement of welding professionals to meet technological demands and ensure the quality of welded components.
