desta patologia.
Library Online (SCIELO), National Library of Medicine (PUBMED), Literatura

Abstract:
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an extremely common
clinical condition in women of reproductive age. Its prevalence varies from 6 to

repercussions, and chronic anovulation are the main characteristics of this
pathology. The purpose of this narrative review of the literature is the systematic

presentation of the theme, to enable the reader to identify the syndrome and its
evidence-based decision making. To this end, the study was based on data
generated by the scientific literature on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, using the
platforms: Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), National Library of
Medicine (PUBMED), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health
Sciences (LILACS), and the materials made available by the Ministry of Health.
Hirsutism, androgenic alopecia, persistent acne, menstrual irregularity and
obesity, are some of the clinical findings of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. This
picture is the result of a sum of pathophysiological mechanisms. The diagnosis
of PCOS includes the exclusion of differential diagnoses, associated with the use
of the Rotterdam criteria that brings together clinical and ultrasound assessment.
Treatment is based on the management of the clinical manifestations and the
individual needs of each patient. The multicentric approach to the topic enables
the identification and adequate management of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome in
clinical practice. -
