Abstract:
The Health Services Waste (HSW) corresponds to about 2% of urban waste, but the dangerousness level of this residue poses a risk to human and environmental health when disposed incorrectly. In this connection, the aim of this study was to analyze in a quantitative and comparative way the operational procedures of the generated waste at the HMI of Marabá – PA, according to the regulations of the Health Ministry, RDC ANVISA 306/04 and 222/18, in addition to the CONAMA Resolution 358/05. The method used was inductive because it allows the utilization of quantitative data and past literature; the characteristics adopted were: descriptive and explanatory, with an applied nature. In the methodology, a field research was used, authorized by the hospital management. To obtain the primary data, a check list was applied in the five sectors: Reception, Obstetric Center (OC), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Blocks A and B. The obtained data showed that the five internal sectors produced 605,64kg (?/day=86.52kg) of HSW, distributed into three groups according to the amount found: A (infectious: n = 422,60kg; 69.70%); D (common: n = 146.08Kg; 24.12%); E (sharps: n = 36.94Kg; 6.10%). In the investigated areas, the OC had the highest production of group A Health Waste (n = 244.10kg; 57.70%) when compared to group D (n = 39.97kg; 6.45%). In the HWS management, the HMI presented flaws in some stages, which does not differ from other establishments. In this scenery, it is suggested the training of employees, restoration of temporary storage sites, use of didactic labels on containers and their use at strategic points.
