Abstract: Knowing the nutritional profile of a certain population is fundamental for the development of health actions aiming at the prevention of chronic diseases. For this purpose, the Ministry of Health (MoH) created the Food and Nutritional Surveillance System (SISVAN), with the objective of being an essential tool in the food and nutritional surveillance of all life cycles. This study aims to collect and analyze the anthropometric data of adults from the municipality of Chapada do Norte, MG, from 2015 to 2021 and thus assist in the development of more effective actions in the scope of prevention in the primary care of the region. It is possible to observe an increase in weight of individuals in the researched age groups over time, especially in the last two years. It was observed that while severe thinness is decreasing after 2018, from 4.73% to 3.51% in 2021, other categories that classify the increase in mass were in the opposite direction. Severe obesity increased by around 204%, going from 0.49% in 2015 to 1.49% in 2021, for example. The same trend is repeated in the "overweight" category, with an increase of around 23.78%, going from 25.35% in 2015 to 31.38% in 2021. With a critical analysis of the data from this study, the importance of knowing the nutritional status of a population with which one wishes to carry out health promotion work becomes clear, especially in primary care of the Unified Health System (SUS). Therefore, the importance of methods that allow the highlighting of data, such as those provided by SISVAN, as well as the need for further investments to improve the coverage and efficiency of such systems, aiming at improvements in public health policies, especially in its main foundation, prevention.
