ANÁLISE DOS CRITÉRIOS UTILIZADOS PARA AJUSTE DO PARÂMETRO PRESSÃO EXPIRATÓRIA POSITIVA FINAL (PEEP) EM PACIENTES INTERNADOS NA UNIDADE DE TERAPIA INTENSIVA ADULTA DO HOSPITAL GERAL PÚBLICO DE PALMAS
O objetivo do estudo foi de verificar
a necessidade de manutenção da Pressão
Expiratória Positiva Final (PEEP) acima de 8
cm H2O, de acordo com os achados clínicos
dos pacientes internados na Unidade de
Terapia Intensiva (UTI). Desenho e método:
Participaram 4 fisioterapeutas e prontuários
de 7 pacientes que apresentavam PEEP >
8cm H2O. Resultados: Em 100% dos casos, o
fisioterapeuta utilizou a PEEP para “manter o
alvéolo aberto” com respaldo técnico-científico.
O objetivo “abrir alvéolos colapsados”, foi
utilizado para 2 pacientes com justificativas
respaldadas. Já para os objetivos “aumentar a
área de troca” e “redistribuir liquido/aproximar
o alvéolo do capilar”, os pesquisadores não
conseguiram respaldar o uso da PEEP em alguns
pacientes, indicando a necessidade de ajustes.
Portanto, é primordial que os fisioterapeutas
tenham consciência da importância do ajuste
para atuação de excelência ao paciente

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was
to verify the need to maintain Positive End
Expiratory Pressure (PEEP) above 8 cm H2O,
according to the clinical findings of patients
admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Design and Methods: The study included
four physical therapists and data from seven
patients showed PEEP > 8cm H2O. Results:
physical therapists used PEEP with plausible
rationale to keep alveoli open in 100% of these
cases. The purpose Open collapsed alveoli
were chosen for 2 patients with well-founded
rationale. However, for Increase exchange area
and Redistribute fluid/increase contact between
alveoli and capillary veins there were cases

where no justification was found, indicating the need for adjustments. Therefore, it is
crucial that physical therapists and ICU staff are aware of the importance of ventilation
adjustments and that all professionals are open to attempts of adjustments to achieve
excellent patient care.
