Abstract: Despite the advent of digital radiology, which eliminates the use of developers and fixers, most professionals still use the conventional method, due to the high cost of implementing the service and the need for greater technical training for the operator. The process of developing dental radiographic films in conventional radiology involves the development, fixation, washing and drying steps. The solutions used in this process contain chemicals and heavy metals that, if discarded in domestic sewage, can contaminate soil and water. The objective of this work was to study and analyze the radiographic effluent management process in public dental services in the municipalities of Comendador Levy Gasparian and Três Rios, and to elaborate a procedure manual for the correct disposal of waste. This is a research with a qualitative and quantitative approach, with an exploratory character carried out with dental professionals in the municipalities of Comendador Levy Gasparian and Três Rios, located in the Center South region of the State of Rio de Janeiro, from September to October 2019. The initial sample of professionals was obtained through the National Register of Health Establishments (CNES), by extracting data from professionals using the Brazilian Classification of Occupations (CBO) for dental surgeons in both municipalities and the public administrative establishments that perform radiographic exams in clinical dentistry. It was noticed that dental surgeons in the cities studied did not correctly dispose of radiographic effluents. It was also observed that, despite the existence of pertinent legislation regarding the classification and the correct handling of residues in health services, the number of dental professionals in the studied municipalities that do not properly dispose of the residues generated in image processing is still significant. radiographic, showing the need for greater monitoring, as well as the training of professionals, encouraging treatment before disposal, minimizing the impact on public health and the environment.
