ANÁLISE DA RETENÇÃO DE DISCENTES DE CURSOS DE ENGENHARIA ELÉTRICA E MECÂNICA DA UFSCAR
Os cursos de engenharia têm apresentado cada vez mais discentes que não terminam sua formação no período estabelecido pelo projeto pedagógico, isto é, os discentes prolongam a sua permanência na universidade além do necessário. Um efeito dessa realidade é o retardamento da entrada desses profissionais no mercado de trabalho, além do aumento dos custos de sua formação. As causas dessa retenção são as mais diversas, variando desde as de cunho social até as formas de estudo e estabelecimento dos objetivos dos alunos na busca de sua formação. Esse trabalho tem como objetivo realizar uma análise das causas dessa retenção em relação às justificativas fornecidas pelos discentes, os relacionamentos na universidade e fora e a organização e maneira de estudo dos discentes dos cursos de Engenharia Elétrica e Engenharia Mecânica da Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar). Como metodologia utilizada um questionário foi aplicado com questões relacionadas aos relacionamentos com amigos, família, professores e funcionários, desempenho na escola, número de disciplinas em dependência e a forma de estudo em um universo de 63 discentes. Com esses dados pode ser observado o motivo dessa retenção e se estabelecer diretivas para os discentes a fim de se evitar ou diminuir as causas de sua retenção na universidade.

Abstract:
The engineering courses have presented more and more students who do not finish their graduation in the period established by the pedagogical project, that is, the students prolong their stay in the university beyond the necessary. One effect of this reality is the delay, reduction of professionals in the market, besides the increase of the costs of its formation. The causes of this retention are the most diverse, varying from the social ones to the forms of study and establishment of the students’ objectives in the search of their formation. This work aims to analyze the causes of this retention in relation to social behavior and its way of studying. As a methodology, a questionnaire was applied with questions related to relationships with friends, family, teachers and employees, performance in school and form of study in a universe of 63 students of the Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering courses of the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). With these data can be observed the reason of this retention in the university and to outline the pattern of behavior and habits of study of the students that has the best performances.
