Abstract: SPOAN syndrome is a form of complicated spastic paraplegia of recessive inheritance, a genetic alteration that develops in individuals descended by consanguinity. The syndrome is not fatal, however, it has no cure and presents several symptoms that impact the quality of life of those affected, such as motor and peripheral neuropathy, optic atrophy, mental retardation, dementia, among others. This review seeks to answer the following question: What are the impacts on the quality of life of patients with SPOAN syndrome based on the existing literature? This is a systematic literature review that sought to review the existing bibliographic material that describes the quality of life of patients affected by Spoan syndrome. Several studies have shown that patients characterized as having a complicated syndrome have a lower quality of life, regardless of the scales used. It is worth mentioning the issue of work, in addition to the physical factors related to the syndrome, it is also necessary to monitor mental health as a determining factor for a better quality of life for patients with SPOAN syndrome.
