Abstract: Medical training in Brazil has been facing an important expansion process, being strongly influenced by public policies that promote health training in the country. Therefore, relating training policies and the expansion chronology of a course contributes to the literature and to the practitioners decision-making. As methods we used a historical and exploratory analysis to chronologically map the expansion of Brazilian medical education in the light of health education policies. The results shown: a) constant predominance of higher vacancies in the private sector, with boosting since 2013, except for the midwest region, and b) higher territorial inequality between capital and countryside in the north and northeast regions. These results can lead to shortages of medical manpower and lack of health services, despite the implementation of public policies.
