Abstract: Ecosystems are important for maintaining environmental balance, but human activities have increased the release of pollutants, including heavy metals, compromising soil and water quality. Monitoring these metals in water bodies is essential to assess contamination and ensure environmental health. In Brazil, regulations such as CONAMA resolutions 420/2009, 454/2012 and 430/2011 guide the management of contaminated areas, dredging materials and effluent discharge, respectively. Thus, the objective of the research was to determine the metal content in samples of sediment and sewage sludge, collected in the municipality of Santa Helena, in the west of the state of Paraná. The physical and chemical parameters were determined, according to the Embrapa Manual and the pseudo-total metal contents according to the EPA 3051 A method. Methodological validation was carried out using the Certified Reference Material (CRM049-50G). The metal ion contents in the sludge samples were close to those found in the literature for the region. Regarding the sediments, the pseudo-total metal contents of the metallic ions Cu, Cr, Fe, Ni, Pb and Zn were above the values legislated by CONAMA 420/2009, indicating anthropogenic influence. And, for the influent and effluent samples, the levels of Cd, Ni and Pb in the effluents were above the standards legislated by CONAMA Resolution 430/2011, with a greater increase in Pb, which suggests a high degree of contamination.
