Abstract: The nurse's role in the work environment involves both management and care aspects, being directly linked to care practices, especially in imaging diagnostic centers where technological advancements are constant. It is of fundamental importance that nurses are competent in management to guarantee comprehensive qualified and humanized care. Nurses have a historical role as a professional who manages the care provided by the nursing team. The aim of this study was to analyze the essential competencies required of nurses for effective management of services in Imaging Diagnostic Centers. A quantitative, exploratory, cross-sectional field study was conducted with thirteen nurses working in hospitals, clinics, and imaging diagnostic departments in Criciúma. A semi-structured script was used to collect data between August and September. The responses provided by the participants showed that, out of the thirteen nurse managers in imaging diagnostic centers, the majority were women aged between 24 and 39, with more than five years of experience in the imaging department. The main weakness identified was difficulty in team management, and the main competencies were healthcare attention, decision-making, communication, leadership, administration, management, and continuous education. It can be concluded that nurse management emerges as the main instrument in the nursing process, also understood as care management. It is present in all activities, in service organization, team relationships, institution, and consequently, the delivery of indicators. It also plays an extremely important role in decision-making, which, even inherently, occupies a significant place in the professional's profile.
