• Abstract: ABSTRACT: INTRODUCTION: Anaphylaxis is a clinical emergency and recent reports suggest an increase in prevalence. A diverse set of primary genetic and environmental influences can confer susceptibility and the possibility of anaphylactic reactions. METHODOLOGY: This is a literature review, of a narrative type, which aims to describe anaphylaxis and allergic reactions, from a theoretical point of view, through materials that have already been published on the topic in question, through analysis and interpretation of literature. The inclusion criteria were: articles in Portuguese and English; published between 2020 and 2024 and which addressed the themes proposed for this research, studies of this type made available in full. The exclusion criteria were: duplicate articles, available in abstract form, which did not directly address the scientific proposal and which did not meet the other inclusion criteria. DISCUSSION: Anaphylaxis presents diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. It often manifests with a wide range of symptoms and signs that may be similar to other illnesses. The management of anaphylaxis consists of emergency measures to treat acute episodes, as well as preventive strategies to avoid recurrences. CONCLUSION: Treatment is complicated by its rapid onset and progression, the presence of diseases or medications, and the need to avoid allergens in the long term. Providers' health care program must be able to recognize the signs of anaphylaxis, treat a specific and detailed episode, and provide preventive recommendations. Recognizing gaps in our understanding and management of anaphylaxis can help identify promising targets for future treatment and prevention and areas that require further study.
