AN INCURSION INTO ETHNOPHOTOGRAPHY AS METALANGUAGE: FROM THE DOCUMENTATION OF FIELD RESEARCH TO THE SOCIAL VISIBILITY OF AN INDIGENOUS ETHOS OF THE AKWE-XERENTE DO TOCANTINS PEOPLE
Este artigo aborda o modo pelo qual a etnofotografia (DOREA, 2009) pode configurar-se como metalinguagem à medida que atua tanto no registro etnográfico, como instrumental metodológico de pesquisa de campo sobre um ethos indígena, quanto como imagem significante, na perspectiva da Antropologia visual, por dar visibilidade a questões étnicas, ao documentar o povo Akwe-Xerente, do Tocantins (Norte do Brasil), integrante da Amazônia Legal. Discorre a respeito do significado de uma proposta de exposição fotográfica sobre as novas ancoragens das tradições desses povos indígenas, (CERTEAU, 1994; THOMPSON, 2008), trazendo ao público essas formas de resistência à hegemonização cultural e à dominação política, exercidas pela sociedade e pela mídia, cujas abordagens predominantes (re)produzem equívocos e acarretam em invisibilidades.

Abstract:
This article discusses the way in which ethnophotography (DOREA, 2009) can be configured as a metalanguage as it acts both in the ethnographic record and as a methodological tool for field research on an indigenous ethos, as well as a significant image, in the perspective of visual anthropology, for giving visibility to ethnic issues, when documenting the Akwe-Xerente people, from Tocantins (Northern Brazil), a member of the Legal Amazon. It discusses the meaning of a photographic exhibition proposal on the new anchors of the traditions of these indigenous peoples, (CERTEAU, 1994; THOMPSON, 2008), bringing to the public these forms of resistance to cultural hegemonization and political domination, exercised by society and by the media whose approaches (re) produce mistakes and lead to invisibilities.
