Abstract: The placenta has great importance for neonatal development and its characteristics vary across species. Human placentation is defined as the invasion of the trophoblastic cell layer into the basal decidua and myometrium, thus establishing an interface between the blastocyst, the final product of the zygote, and the decidualized endometrium. From this, the occurrence of failures in this formation triggers a series of consequences such as the emergence of disorders and pathologies throughout pregnancy that pose risks to the health of the pregnant woman and the development of the fetus; without proper diagnosis and monitoring, it is possible to have fatal consequences. Final considerations: It can be considered that the placenta is very important, and many factors can lead to changes in its morphology that hinder proper fetal formation.
