Abstract: Children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder may have difficulties in social interaction and communication, sometimes requiring extra care in dental appointments. The objective of this study is to provide strategies and information to facilitate the dental treatment of the patients, always seeking the quality of oral health. Pubmed and SciELO data were used as a basis, the selected articles report general characteristics of autism spectrum disorder, classification and management for dental care published between 2011 and 2023. In this review,it was analyzed that the prevalence of caries, periodontal disease and malucclusion is higher in autistic patients, as well as there is greater difficulty in hygiene. It was concluded that patients with autism need greater attention at the time of consultation, especially in terms of management and the sensory issues affected.
