Abstract: Although benzene exposure levels are higher for workers in industrial sectors instead for the general population, the increasing contamination of the environment by industries, especially water bodies, is a growing concern. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of phenol intake at different concentrations on the biochemical and physiological parameters of Wistar rats. In this study, solutions containing phenol were prepared (0, 2.5, 10, or 40 mg/kg BW) and administered to Wistar rats orally for ten days. The behavioral analysis of the animals did not show significant changes compared to the control group (0 mg/kg BW). Liver and kidney functions were evaluated, with a considerable increase in urea levels in animals treated with 2.5 and 10 mg/kg BW and creatine kinase in animals exposed to the lowest dose compared to the highest dose. These results suggest that despite the absence of changes in morphological and behavioral parameters, exposure to phenol is associated with increased levels of creatine kinase and serum urea, indicating possible hepatotoxic and nephrotoxic effects
