ALTERAÇÕES BUCAIS EM CRIANÇAS SUBMETIDAS A TRATAMENTO ONCOLÓGICO: DIRETRIZES DE ATUAÇÃO ODONTOLÓGICA

• Abstract: The objective of this study was to describe the oral complications of chemotherapy performed in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and acute myelogenous leukemia. This is a narrative review of the literature, exploratory character that has occurred in printed publications and scientific articles published in Portuguese, English and Spanish, between the years 2005-2016, which met the following topics: indication of the most frequent oral manifestations in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia undergoing chemotherapy; characterization of the most common oral lesions and dental indication of guidelines for intervention in the face of oral lesions in children undergoing chemotherapy. It was concluded that both LLA and LMA as their treatment cause significant changes which require oral dental work. The treatment of oral complications due to cancer therapy includes identification of high-risk populations, empowerment of patients and their parents, early interventions before treatment and timely management of lesions. Dental treatment should be started as soon as possible in order to prevent and treat both the foci of infection as the side effects of chemotherapy. Both general and taken as the oral treatment are integrated in the pre-treatment of leukemia protocols. The buccodental care shall be submitted in accordance with the oncologist and the extent of each child's needs.
