Abstract: The objective was analyze the perception of school management and Municipal Department of Education staffs on the effects of teacher’s illness and absence on teaching and on the management of municipal education network. To this end, 11 subjects were interviewed, 3 from the Secretariat and 8 managers from 4 municipal schools with most teachers on leave from July/2018 to July/2019. Participants pointed out that mental health (73%) and musculoskeletal problems (45.4%) make teachers diseased more often, and a substitute (91%) or called-in teacher (72.7%) are used to make up for this absences. It was highlighted that the greatest impact on teaching occurs with the breaking of the teacher-student bond (54.5%) and the discontinuity of the teaching-learning process (54.5%). The impact of teacher absenteeism for health reasons is felt by managers, and the teacher-student emotional bond is the aspect most affected in teaching.
