Adequação do uso e ocupação do solo para abastecimento do lençol freático no Semiárido brasileiro

• Abstract: Studies on the use and occupation of the territory exploited by different sectors of the community, whether urban, rural, or industrial, linked to the specificities of the watersheds, are of paramount importance for the management and sustainability of water resources in the semi-arid region of Brazil, as they can be agents of alterations in river courses. Therefore, this review aims to examine the scientific works that address watershed conservation, in addition to emphasizing the significance of land management and occupation, as well as their crucial role in the supply and security of groundwater in the semi-arid regions of the Brazilian Northeast. In this vast territory, notable examples of progress based on principles that were once inconceivable can be observed. Among these illustrations, we highlight the adoption of diverse agricultural approaches, the application of technologies for water storage, such as underground reservoirs, and other strategies that promote adaptation to the semi-arid climate. This phenomenon represents a shift in paradigms and ideas about the area, suggesting a future in which more initiatives, technologies, and public policies can be tested and innovated within the locality, further promoting progress in coexisting with the semi-arid region.
