Abstract: Introduction: The prison population is considered highly vulnerable, especially in terms of susceptibility to infectious diseases. Faced with an approach transdisciplinary, the performance of health education is a tool capable of encouraging self-care and influencing good practices that minimize the risk of developing illnesses. Objective: Provide society with knowledge about educational actions in health, that encourage self-care and reflections capable of modifying risk behaviors impacting the individual and collective health of individuals deprived of liberty. Result: A insertion in the prison reality enabled learning beyond the contents taught, ensuring understanding of the importance of health education actions in the prevention of exposure to injuries. Conclusion: Promoting learning in the prison environment requires multifocal action, appreciation of sociocultural knowledge, dialogue about the importance of health education and reflections on the autonomy of subjects in changing their lifestyle.
