ACHADOS IMAGINOLÓGICOS DE ÍLEO PARALÍTICO POR ADERÊNCIA INTESTINAL APÓS PROCEDIMENTO DE OVARIOHISTERECTOMIA – RELATO DE CASO

• Abstract: Mechanical ileus is a pathological condition that occurs due to a blockage of the intestinal lumen, either partial or total, and is constantly associated with foreign body ingestion, intussusception, intestinal abscess, incarcerated hernia, volvulus, parasites, adhesions, post-surgical stenosis, impaction or congenital defects. Therefore, imaging modalities, such as radiography and ultrasound, are the tests of choice for confirming the diagnosis of this disease in pets. The aim of this paper is to report the case of a female canine, of no defined breed, of an age not precisely stated and weighing 19.3 kg, seen at the Dix-Huit Rosado Maia Veterinary Hospital (HOVET-UFERSA), with the main complaint of adipsia, anorexia, inappetence, episodes of emesis and a history of a recent ovariohysterectomy procedure. Imaging tests showed the presence of gas-filled intestinal loops in the cranial region of the abdomen, a gravel sign, two populations of loops filled with gas and liquid, with the onset of verticalization. Ultrasound showed a nodular structure in the topography of the ovary, echogenic and with no Doppler signal, thickened intestinal loop lumen, pleated jejunal loops in the topography caudal to the left kidney, dilated and filled with liquid content cranial to this segment. The animal was found to be suffering from mechanical ileus, which was confirmed by surgery and the visualization of intestinal adhesions due to previous surgical trauma. However, although the therapeutic and surgical approach was carried out, the patient died pos procedure, due to the severity and extent of the injury.
