Abstract: Essential oils are volatile, aromatic and concentrated substances extracted from botanical plant material. They contain compounds such as linalool, sabinene, menthol, among others. They are used in industries as a type of alternative preservative due to their antimicrobial and antifungal action. In this study, we sought to evaluate the antimicrobial potential of different types of Bergamot essential oils, such as Brazil, China, Ivory Coast and Italy on certain bacteria. The essential oils were used in pure form, undiluted and combined, impregnated on 6 mm diameter filter paper discs suitable for antibiograms, placed in Petri dishes with appropriate culture medium, previously sown with the following microorganisms: Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella Typhimurium, Salmonella Enteritidis, then incubated at 35°C for 24 and 48 hours. The analyses were carried out in duplicate and resulted in satisfactory results for almost all the oils on all the bacteria analyzed. The best results were verified for Brazil, China, Ivory Coast bergamot oils on E. coli; China and Ivory Coast bergamot on S. Enteritidis; Italy bergamot on B. subtilis, Ivory Coast bergamot on B. cereus and Brazil and Ivory Coast bergamot on S. Typhimurium (90 mm halos).
