Abstract: The objective of this study was to identify the best laparoscopic access for visualization and manipulation of the umbilical structures within the abdominal cavity of bovine fetuses. Nine fetuses from cow calves in the final third of pregnancy were used, all of which underwent laparoscopy with two access portals, first on the right flank and then in the ventral region of the abdomen, where the possibilities of access to the umbilical structures were verified. In both approaches, access portals allowed viewing and manipulation of the structures of interest, but the lateral approach was more effective with better visualization and manipulation. The ventral accesses did not provide the same ease of visualization and manipulation, as the umbilical structures fixed to the abdominal wall were very close to the portals. These results demonstrate that laparoscopy can be used to manipulate and visualize umbilical structures, with the lateral approach being more effective.
