Abstract: Endocardiosis is one of the main heart diseases presented in dog and cat clinics. It is degenerative disease that affects the heart valves, with the mitral and tricuspid valves being the most affected. Mitral valve endocardiosis is the most prevalent, predominantly in elderly male dogs. Clinical signs may alternate depending on the affected valve. Doppler echocardiography is used to establish the staging and diagnosis of endocardiosis in dogs, with the aim of visualizing the dilation of the atria and ventricles, observing the coaptation of the heart valves and the regurgitation of blood from the ventricle to the atrium. Emergency and/or home treatment of endocardiosis aims to establish management protocols aimed at controlling the respective clinical signs and cardiovascular changes present, using intensive veterinary monitoring, home support therapies, and drug administration integrated with the needs of each patient. In view of this, this review aims to conduct a literature review on the etiology, predisposing factors, symptomatology, diagnostic methods, and treatment protocols with the most current hospital and home management strategies for endocarditis in dogs. To compose this project, information will be collected through the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Google Scholar, National Library of Medicine (PubMed), Elton B. Stephens Company (EBSCO), and CAPES journals. This literature review demonstrated that the mentioned cardiomyopathy has no definitive cure, and it is essential to use imaging tests such as Doppler echocardiography and chest radiography associated with an effective anamnesis to establish the diagnosis and correct staging of this disease. During the clinical routine, the veterinarian must pay attention to providing better exposure of the pathophysiological and therapeutic processes to the owners, with the aim of ensuring effective home and hospital treatment, providing a better quality of life for the patient and significantly reducing the consequences arising from the clinical picture of endocardiosis.
