Abstract: Autism spectrum disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder, beginning in the first years of life and persisting into adulthood, but each person presents a different diagnosis, while some are able to live normally, others have difficulties interacting with the world around them. around, which ends up making it difficult to care for autistic patients. Therefore, this work aims to search the scientific literature for the most relevant information on the subject, and clarify the clinical approach to be taken. The methodology used was a literature review based on articles on the dental approach to treating autistic people, in Portuguese and English, in databases such as LILACS AND PUBMED, between the years 2018 to 2022. According to the literature, it is extremely It is important to have dental care since childhood, in order to become familiar with the environment, in addition to a multidisciplinary team for humanized and qualified care for these patients. One of the ways of approaching autistic patients is the same as that used in pediatric dentistry, say-show-do, control the voice and distract. Furthermore, the family also plays a fundamental role in the collaboration and success of this team, providing them with greater security, as well as creating bonds of trust between the dentist, the patient and the family. Given the results obtained, it is concluded that dental care for autistic patients requires knowledge about ASD and understanding of each person's individualities, so that they can be treated differently and without trauma.
