Abstract: The biopsychosocial approach has become established as one of the main theoretical frameworks in contemporary physiotherapy, especially in the care of individuals with kinetic-functional dysfunctions. In contrast to the traditional biomedical model, predominantly focused on structural alterations and disease, the biopsychosocial model proposes understanding the health-disease process as a result of the dynamic interaction between biological, psychological, and social factors. In this context, physiotherapy practice expands its scope of action, incorporating subjective and contextual aspects that directly influence functionality, pain experience, and the quality of life of patients. Therefore, this study aims to discuss the foundations, applications, and implications of the biopsychosocial approach in physiotherapy, with an emphasis on kinetic-functional dysfunctions. It addresses the evolution of health models, the clinical complexity of these conditions, the processes of physiotherapy assessment and intervention, as well as the relevance of the therapist-patient relationship and the contemporary challenges for the implementation of this model. Thus, the aim is to highlight the importance of comprehensive, individual-centered care that promotes autonomy, functionality, and better clinical outcomes.
