Abstract: Despite the sewage treatment systems have great technologies in the removal of pollutants, it is not always possible to fit the discharge standard with the legislation, for this is necessary to find ecological and low-cost ways as an alternative to improvement. Aquatic macrophytes are quite efficient in terms of pollutant removal. The present research was carried out in the sewage treatment station of the city of Caruaru and the treated effluent of the ETE was used operating with the wetland system that was made in an aquarium with the macrophyte of the species Eichhornia crassipes popularly known as baronesa and it was noted the removal of nitrogen in the treated sewage in addition to the removal of turbidity. The system operated for 45 days with the baroness macrophyte, where in the last 15 days an aquarium pump was used in order to help with the oxygenation of the effluent. Monitoring analyzes were carried out and obtained a nitrogen removal efficiency of 99.81% and 90.81% of turbidity removal.
