Abstract: Aging is a universal and multifactorial process that involves biological, psychological, and social transformations, with a direct impact on how individuals experience old age. This literature review analyzes the sociology of aging, highlighting three crucial dimensions: personality, resilience, and attitudes toward aging. Personality, understood through relatively stable traits throughout life, influences adaptation to age-related changes, with factors such as conscientiousness and extroversion proving protective, while neuroticism constitutes increased vulnerability. Resilience emerges as a central resource, enabling older adults to cope with adversity, preserve autonomy, and maintain a positive sense of control, even in the face of loss or limitations. Attitudes toward aging, on the other hand, express social and individual beliefs and perceptions that, when positive, promote quality of life, physical health, and community integration, and when negative, reinforce stigma, isolation, and functional decline. An analysis of these three dimensions reveals that the experience of aging is not homogeneous, but shaped by the interaction of personal and contextual factors. Thus, understanding the interconnection between personality, resilience, and attitudes is essential to promoting healthy and active aging, challenging negative representations, and valuing the social contributions of older adults. It follows that public policies and interventions should integrate these factors, focusing on education for aging, promoting social participation, and strengthening support networks, ensuring that longevity is accompanied by quality of life and dignity.
