Abstract: The radio, widely disseminated in Brazil, has held an educational role since its inception, featuring programs aimed at literacy. This study sought to explore the potential of radio in education and identify gaps in the use of radio content for scientific communication among illiterate audiences. The findings reveal that radio is effective in reaching diverse contexts and can serve as a valuable tool to promote science in informal settings, particularly among elderly and illiterate groups. This suggests that radio education may represent a promising strategy for fostering scientific literacy within the Brazilian context. However, there remains an underutilized potential in the application of radio for education and scientific communication today.
