Abstract: The aim of this study is to reflect on the understanding of deaf audiences regarding the information made available by television news programs, as well as on their perceptions of the inclusion resources present in the production and transmission of news content. In addition, we analyze how deaf audiences perceive the construction of language in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras). To operationalize the research, interviews were conducted with five deaf individuals who had daily access to television news. In this context, participants were asked about their experiences in obtaining news from television newscasts, as well as the positive and negative aspects of this experience. As support for the interviews, accessibility resources from the now-defunct TV Ines were used during the interviews. Based on the findings of this study, we conclude that television productions need to become increasingly accessible. In this regard, it is essential to ensure that a greater number of people have access to relevant information, thereby enabling television journalism to fulfill it’s social role and contribute to the construction of citizenship.
