Abstract: analysis grounded in a psychoanalytic perspective. Obesity is a chronic disease characterized by the excessive accumulation of adipose tissue, which compromises individuals' health. The World Health Organization defines obesity through the Body Mass Index (BMI), and it is estimated that 12% of the global population is obese. Excess weight is a risk factor for non-communicable chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and high blood pressure. The aesthetic standard regarding obesity has always varied according to culture and historical context. Presently, we live in a society that values a lean body image, defined as a symbol of health and beauty, which can lead to psychological suffering and discomfort for obese individuals who do not fit into this standard. As our method, we employ a qualitative analysis of the case of a 43-year-old female patient who experienced weight regain following bariatric surgery. Based on the case description, an analysis of the subject will be carried out, encompassing all the theoretical foundations presented on the topic.
