• Abstract: This article focuses on the analysis of the word Frantastique, a lexical item that emerges from the interrelation between the French dictionary words fantastique (fantastic) and français (French). The investigation of the internal structure of the term Frantastique, through morphological theories developed by scholars in Linguistics, allows us to address the following questions: Why can it be considered a word? Under which word-formation process does the lexical item Frantastique fall: derivation or compounding? — A discussion that extends to whether it should be understood as part of concatenative or non-concatenative formations. Answering these questions will lead us to classify Frantastique within a morphological process known as blending — a linguistic phenomenon that will be discussed in the second part of this text, highlighting its conceptualization in different languages and the earliest formations identified and studied by Linguistics.
