Abstract: This experience report presents the details of an annual project implemented at the Pastor José Tavares de Souza State School, in which 8th grade students used photography as a tool to investigate changes in the local landscape. The project involved several stages, from developing the theme, separating groups, choosing the landscape to be observed, to producing final reports and presenting them to the management team, with posters showing the results of the research to the other students at the school. The students were divided into groups and, over the course of four months, took photographs of the changes that had occurred in a landscape chosen by them. The images captured were analyzed in the classroom, promoting discussions about the natural and human aspects of the landscape, the relationships between society and space, and the influence of public policies, demonstrating the level of environmental education and even the need for awareness campaigns in the peripheral area. In addition, the students conducted research on the history of the neighborhood and the school, integrating this information into their reports. The results of the project were very positive. The students demonstrated significant learning, developing skills such as observation, analysis, image interpretation, research and writing. In addition, the project contributed to the formation of more critical and aware citizens, capable of identifying problems and proposing solutions for the community. The project highlights the importance of pedagogical innovation in teaching Geography, with the participation and engagement of students, demonstrating how the use of resources such as photography can make learning more meaningful and interesting for students. By connecting the theoretical contents of Geography with the local reality, the project helped to awaken a sense of belonging in them, generating more contextualized and relevant learning. The article demonstrates the potential of photography as a pedagogical tool for teaching Geography, establishing the active methodologies that are so necessary in the technological scenario in which young people are immersed. By promoting the investigation of the local landscape, the project contributed to the development of essential skills for life in society, such as critical thinking, collaboration and citizenship. In addition, the project demonstrated the importance of connecting theory with practice, making learning more meaningful and relevant for students.
