Abstract: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are used to promote the reduction or cessation of inflammatory conditions in the body, in addition to providing other ancillary effects, such as antipyretic or analgesic actions in some anti-inflammatories. However, their chronic use can become problematic over long treatment periods, potentially being associated with the development of more complex pathologies. This work focuses on several conditions, including: acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, stroke, and unstable angina. The aim of this study is to discuss the chronic use of anti-inflammatories, given that prolonged use of this medication class is associated with the development of certain cardiovascular diseases of health interest, as well as to highlight the importance of the pharmacist's role in controlling and monitoring these treatments. The method used was a literature review in the databases Scielo, PubMed, and Google Scholar, selecting 20 articles related to the scope of the study. The results indicated the necessity for pharmacists to continuously monitor the treatment progress of each patient and to provide careful guidance to patients using these medications chronically, informing them of the risks associated with this use.
