Abstract: This research considers the study of mathematics in everyday life with the use of the technique of problematizing scenarios and with trial and error strategies in the solution process and developments in the learning process with a motivational and content focus on the area of environmental sanitation and their demands. In this scenario, the general objective is to present a proposal for teaching mathematics based on problems, applied to the context of environmental sanitation, and, as specific objectives, the promotion of the process of modeling problems with a mathematical bias and the description of proposals of solutions that envision the maintenance of the environment and related activities. To consolidate these objectives, a methodology based on a literature review, of a documentary and historical nature, is adopted, with a basis in the mathematical problematization of everyday life problems with the bias of the environment and the like, with a focus on water and sewage treatment processes. The results indicate that this approach promoted greater student engagement in mathematics learning and allowed the practical application of the studied concepts, contributing to a more meaningful understanding of the discipline. It is concluded that problem-based mathematics can be an effective pedagogical strategy to make teaching more attractive and relevant, in addition to contributing to the formation of more aware and critical citizens in relation to environmental issues.
