Abstract: This article, through a literature review, explores the importance of the English language as a requirement in the competitive world of work, focusing on the challenges and possibilities of teaching it in higher education programs, especially those focused on business management. Communication is a central element of life in society and plays a strategic role in the global context, where proficiency in English is essential. The contemporary job market values communication skills, especially in English, as a basic requirement for professional integration and advancement. Although English language instruction is mandatory in Brazil from elementary school onwards and is included in some higher education programs, proficiency rates remain low, highlighting challenges that need to be overcome. In this context, Business English emerges as a relevant pedagogical resource for training qualified professionals, especially in areas related to business management, by fostering the development of communication skills for the corporate world. It follows that, in addition to being a professional requirement, English proficiency fosters cultural and personal integration in an increasingly interconnected society, reinforcing the need for more effective strategies to overcome language learning gaps.
