Abstract: English exists about since 15 centuries ago and can be didatic and historically divided into three main historical periods: Old English (V - XI), Middle English (XI - XVI) and Modern English (XVI - nowadays). This issue focus on the beginning of Middle English, mainly on XI Century, in order to show the influende of French in the island language, from the conquest of England by William I, from Normandy. For context, this study introduces a brief English language history, from th formation of Old to the Middle, illustrated with literary examples of the periods. The research is bibliografic, particularly Viney (2008), Lima (2016) e Hradec (2020).
