A INSTRUÇÃO PRIMÁRIA NAS CADEIAS PARAENSES: ORIGENS E FUNCIONAMENTO (1871-1940)
Neste texto nos propomos realizar uma recuperação histórica dos principais fatos e acontecimentos que se evidenciaram na História da educação do sistema prisional brasileiro, em especial no Estado do Pará. Para tanto, fizemos um recorte da investigação referente ao período compreendido entre o Império e a República, quando a instrução primária passou a fazer parte do cotidiano do Sistema Prisional Paraense. Como resultados, constatamos que a instrução passou a fazer parte do cotidiano prisional no estado do Pará desde o Império, baseada em uma concepção de recuperação moral que tinha como principal meta transformar o delinquente em sujeito disciplinado ao e no trabalho, liberto da ociosidade, tendo em vista o desenvolvimento do sistema econômico capitalista. Sob esta perspectiva, esse misto de punição e correção procurava, simbolicamente, marcar na sociedade a ideia de retribuição do mal praticado como forma de prevenir novos delitos, proposta — de base moral e para o capital — que se estendeu pelos períodos seguintes, com diversas e diferentes formas de organização do processo educativo, reforçando o status quo da marginalização e do estado penal do qual o sujeito, ainda que na condição de encarcerado, tentava se desvencilhar para recuperar sua existência enquanto ser individual e coletivo.

Abstract:
In this text we propose to carry out a historical recovery of the main facts and events that became evident in the history of education in the Brazilian prison system, especially in the State of Pará. For this purpose, we made an excerpt of the investigation regarding the period between the Empire and the Republic , when primary education became part of the daily life of the Para Prison System. As a result, we found that instruction became part of the daily life in the state of Pará since the Empire, based on a concept of moral recovery that had as its main goal to transform the offender into a disciplined subject to and at work, freed from idleness, having in view of the development of the capitalist economic system. From this perspective, this mix of punishment and correction sought, symbolically, to mark in society the idea of retribution for the evil practiced as a way to prevent new crimes, a proposal - of moral basis and for capital - that extended over the following periods, with several and different forms of organization of the educational process, reinforcing the status quo of marginalization and the penal state from which the subject, even though in prison, tried to free himself to recover his existence as an individual and collective.
