Abstract: Contact between the newborn (NB) and their mother is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) for full-term babies from the first minute of life, in order to facilitate the adaptation of the newborn in their transition to the extrauterine environment. This was an integrative review, carried out from February to April 2023, through database consultations. A total of 11 articles were found, which were evaluated and studied to meet the inclusion criteria. It was operationalized through steps that are closely interconnected: literature search, data collection, critical analysis of included studies, discussion of results and presentation of the integrative review. The results identified in the observation of the articles, based on the bibliographical survey, enabled the formation of thematic categories for a better understanding addressed here and the discussion of the main information about skin-to-skin contact of the newborn and the mother in the immediate postpartum period.
