• Abstract: A literature review was conducted on malocclusion in different dentitions to study the impact on the quality of life of individuals in early childhood. Functional maxillary orthopedics is a specialty in dentistry that aims to prevent malocclusion, planning preventive treatments aiming at an early diagnosis and consequently avoiding more complex problems. The PUBMED, SciELO and BVS databases were used, using the descriptors maxillary orthopedics. Eighty-one articles on malocclusion were selected, of which 38 were directly related to the proposal of this work. Among those that were evaluated, only 14 articles were suitable for this research. It is concluded that using preventive methods and treatments, which lead to the early diagnosis of deformities that lead to malocclusion, has a positive impact on the patient, leading to this patient having a better quality of life.
