• Abstract: Hospital Pharmacy is an area of ​​pharmacy that aims to guarantee the safety, effectiveness and efficiency of drug therapy used in a hospital environment, with the pharmacist being the professional responsible for coordinating all activities related to this sector. This study consists of a review of the literature on the importance of the pharmacist in the control, dispensing and distribution of medicines in the hospital pharmacy and its implementation comprises the literature linked to the topic, in the databases: SciELO, BVS and LILACS, published in the last five years . A hospital pharmacy is considered one of the most important sectors of a hospital, due to its clinical and management activities, which directly impact patient health care. Pharmacists who work in this field are responsible for ensuring the complete cycle of the medicine, from the selection of its suppliers, adequate storage, to the actual dispensing and distribution, so that this input reaches the patient in a safe and efficient manner. Therefore, the important role of the hospital in ensuring the full functioning of the hospital's various services is reaffirmed.
