Abstract: INTRODUCTION: Childhood and adolescence correspond to the most important stages of development in relation to motor aspects. This occurs because the organism is especially sensitive to the influence of environmental factors, both positive and negative. Therefore, the growing and developing organism of children and adolescents presents specific characteristics that require a different approach. Furthermore, these population groups often do not openly express their symptoms or discomforts, making the physical examination a valuable tool in searching for signs about their health status. OBJECTIVE: report the importance of physical examination in the early identification of diseases in children and adolescents. METHODOLOGY: This is an integrative literature review. The searches were carried out in the online databases: SciELO and Semantic Scholar. Using descriptors according to the DeCS vocabulary, associating the Boolean operator AND: “Child’s Health”, “Adolescent Health”, “Physical Examination”. The inclusion criteria were considered to be periodicals available in full for free; as for the exclusion criteria, duplicate articles in the databases were considered. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Based on the analysis of the 10 articles present in this review, the importance of carrying out a physical examination in children and adolescents is diverse, as it enables the early identification of pathologies and the appropriate choice of treatment. It is also emphasized that it is necessary to develop skills and knowledge for this care practice. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: The importance of physical examination in early identification of illnesses in children and adolescents not only contributes to effective diagnosis and treatment, but also plays a primary role in promoting health, preventing illness, and establishing a solid foundation for well-being. future of these young people.
